We're thrilled to announce that Eastport UMC has been chosen to offer free Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training thanks to a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Why is this important?
Young people today face unique challenges that can impact their mental well-being. By equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to these challenges, we can create a more supportive and understanding community for our youth.
What is YMHFA?
This 8-hour course covers:
Typical adolescent development (ages 12-18)
Common mental health challenges faced by youth
A 5-step action plan for assisting youth in crisis and non-crisis situations
Local resources available to help
Who should attend?
This training is valuable for anyone who interacts with youth, including:
Parents and caregivers
Teachers and school staff
Youth leaders and mentors
