What I'm Reading - January

In this collection of essays, United Methodist Bishop Karen Oliveto (Mountain Sky Area) provides a number of powerful testimonies of God's work in both her life and the lives of other LGBTQ persons. This is a powerful read for all people who experience God's call not just to ministry, but also a call to authenticity.

Throughout this book I kept hearing the words of the Psalmist (139):

You are the one who created my innermost parts; you knit me together while I was still in my mother’s womb. I give thanks to you that I was marvelously set apart. Your works are wonderful—I know that very well.

Here are the stories of LGBTQ persons who are working diligently to answer God's call to ministry, to be true to who they have been created to be. Within the essays are the stories of how God's people have worked to keep them from ministry roles. Their stories are both inspiring and heartbreaking. May we honor both their stories and their Creator.
