Advent Devotional - Dec. 12

Written by Charles Wesley, this hymn was first published in American hymnals. It seems to implore Christ to come. And thou we live in a vastly different time as the author, the longings of our hearts are perhaps just as deep. We long for security, love, relationships, and meaning. To those who open themselves up to this message, this hymn seems to identify these deep longings. When there is no longing, there can be little meaning. Hope, then, is central to the Christian experience. Wesley concludes the hymn with our ultimate hope as Christians “raise us to thy glorious throne.”
